Amidst a series of complex challenges in recent years, Blackpool town centre stands at a critical juncture in its development journey. Over £1bn worth of investment projects are underway, propelling the town towards a remarkable transformation and revitalisation. The focus is on regenerating the town centre, envisioning it as a bustling, dynamic nucleus that caters to both the local community and visitors.
The Council has made significant strides in regeneration by acquiring several key properties. The expansive 380,000 sq. ft Houndshill Shopping Centre, its adjoining 770-space multi-storey car park, Abingdon Street market, and the prominent M&S Building are among them. The development of the adjacent site has delivered a cutting-edge 877-seat IMAX cinema and Backlot diner which opened in April 2024. We are working on development options for the M&S site to catalyse change in the town centre.
This holistic regeneration plan seeks to create a vibrant and engaging place, rekindling the community's pride in its town centre and inviting visitors to explore and engage with the town.
